Frequently asked questions
What Money Journey is, what it costs, how your data is handled, and what it does not do.
The basics
- What is Money Journey?
- Money Journey is a personal finance app that turns tracking your money into a game. You record your assets, debts, income and spending, and the app turns that into a character that levels up, quests to complete, a daily streak, and an AI coach who can see your real numbers.
- Who is Money Journey for?
- People who know they should track their money and have never made the habit stick. It suits anyone building wealth over years rather than trading actively, and it is deliberately friendly to beginners — you can start with nothing but a few account balances.
- Who makes Money Journey?
- It is built by Jussi, who has tracked his own net worth for over a decade and written about personal finance for nearly as long. The service is operated by JBK Consulting Oy (Finnish business ID 3141980-8), based in Finland and offered worldwide.
- Is Money Journey a bank or a financial advisor?
- No. It is a tracking and planning tool. It does not hold your money, execute transactions, or give regulated financial advice. The AI coach discusses your own figures and general principles; it is not a licensed advisor.
Pricing
- How much does Money Journey cost?
- There is a free plan, a Builder plan at 4,99 € per month, and an Investor plan at 9,99 € per month. Both paid plans are cheaper billed yearly — 49,90 € and 99,90 €. Prices are shown here in euro; Money Journey is priced in several currencies and the one you are charged in is chosen at checkout.
- Is Money Journey free?
- Yes, there is a genuinely free plan with no time limit and no card required. It covers tracking assets, debts and cashflow, budgeting, the monthly close, and 10 AI coach credits a month, plus 30 welcome-bonus credits when you start.
- What do the paid plans add?
- Builder adds investment holdings and trades, an unlimited Timeline, double XP and 50 coach credits a month. Investor adds investment analytics and automation, a custom Insights builder, a monthly financial report, triple XP and 150 credits a month.
- How do I cancel?
- Choose Downgrade to Free on the pricing or subscription page. You keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for, nothing is deleted, and you can undo it any time before it takes effect.
Your data and privacy
- Does Money Journey connect to my bank?
- No, and that is deliberate. You enter your figures manually. There are no bank or broker connections, which means no third party holds credentials to your accounts and there is nothing to breach on that front. The trade-off is a few minutes of entry a month.
- Where is my data stored?
- In the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest. The service is operated from Finland and is GDPR compliant. JBK Consulting Oy is the data controller.
- Do you sell my data or show ads?
- No. Money Journey does not sell personal data, show advertising, or use third-party ad and analytics trackers. Usage statistics are first-party, anonymous and set no cookies.
- Can I export or delete my data?
- Yes, at any time and without asking anyone. You can export your data or delete your account and everything in it from the app's settings.
- Can I show the app to someone without revealing my figures?
- Yes. Show a Friend mode hides every amount while keeping the currency symbol, so you can demo the app or take screenshots without exposing what you actually have.
Using it
- What platforms does Money Journey run on?
- It is a progressive web app, so it runs in any modern browser and installs to the home screen on iPhone and iPad, Android, and desktop Chrome or Edge. There is no App Store or Play Store download.
- How much time does it take?
- A few minutes a month is enough for the core loop: update your balances, log what matters, and close the month. Daily quests exist for people who want a smaller, more frequent habit, but nothing breaks if you only show up monthly.
- What is the Journey?
- A ten-level path. Each level asks the same thing — grow your net worth by a set amount — and unlocks more of the app as you climb: new coaches, cosmetics and titles. It is the long arc that the monthly habit feeds.
- What is the monthly close?
- A short guided ritual at the end of each month that locks in your net worth for that month, prompts a reflection, and produces a record you can compare against later. It is what turns a pile of numbers into a trend you can read.
- What does the AI coach actually do?
- It reads your real net worth, cashflow and recent activity, so you never paste your numbers in. It answers questions about your situation, suggests next steps, and remembers the conversation. Different coaches unlock as you level up, each with a different emphasis.
- Do I need to know anything about investing?
- No. You can use Money Journey purely to track balances, spending and net worth. Investment holdings, trades and analytics are there when you want them and stay out of the way when you do not.
Trying it without an account
- Can I try anything without signing up?
- Yes. The Money Tools are free, need no account, and store nothing: six calculators covering loans, compound interest, savings goals, net worth, debt payoff and financial independence, plus a Money Journey Type quiz and a five-minute Monthly Money Review.
- What is a Money Journey Type?
- A short quiz that describes how you naturally approach money — Planner, Builder, Protector, Investor or Optimizer — and suggests a first step that fits. It takes about two minutes, needs no sign-up, and your answers stay in your browser.
- How is this different from a spreadsheet?
- A spreadsheet does the arithmetic but nothing to make you come back. Money Journey keeps the same numbers and adds the part spreadsheets lack: a reason to open it, a record of what you decided, and a coach who has already read your figures.
