August was the busiest month Money Journey has had. Some of it you will notice the moment you open the app; some of it you will only feel as the months stack up. Here is everything worth telling you about.

Two ways to play: Essential and Detailed

Not everyone wants to log every transaction, and the app used to assume you did. Now you choose at the start — and change your mind whenever you like. Essential follows your net worth and nothing else: shorter rituals, a simpler dashboard, and no prompts asking for a ledger you have decided not to keep. Detailed is the full app, cashflow and all. This can be changed in the Settings at any time.

A second ritual: the Mid-Month Check-in

The Monthly Close used to be the only moment that mattered for Journey progression, which made for a long wait in between. On the 15th there is now a shorter check-in that works from today's real figures. This is something that I personally have done for a long time; reserve a moment mid-month to see where I stand and maybe log transactions too to lessen the work at the end of the month.

Miss a month? Fill it in later

The Monthly Close now runs from the last day of the month through the 14th of the next one. If life gets in the way, the month does not disappear — it turns up on your Timeline as something you can complete in place, as a simple form rather than the whole ritual again.

The close itself is shorter when you want it to be

Every step except your net worth can now be skipped, and you can come back and finish a month later. Investments have their own steps instead of being buried in the middle of something else, and one dialog updates every balance for the month at once — the same one both rituals use, so the numbers only ever get entered once.

Your starting line

A new Level 2 moment that gets your opening figures on record and treats it as the occasion it is. It is the number every later month is measured against, and it takes about as long as it sounds.

Quests are drills now, not reading

Daily and weekly quests used to be a paragraph you read and agreed with. Now they ask you to work something out: a quick calculation, an ordering puzzle, a choice between two doors — with fresh numbers each time, so you cannot coast on memory. And most importantly, they are now focused on honing the hard money skills!

Every chapter teaches something you can take with you

The story was always good at motivating. Now each chapter also hands you an operation you can run on your own money, away from the app — you work out the number rather than being told it.

Ten levels of story, rewritten

All ten levels went through a full rewrite against a written voice standard, along with the ritual copy, the monthly report and your AI coach. The narrator has an arc now. Each coach gets a proper first impression, they notice when you have changed, later chapters remember what you actually chose, and more, but I don't want to spoil the surprise.

The app opens noticeably faster

We measured what happens in the first second after you open Money Journey and then spent a week taking it apart. The opening bundle is a fifth smaller, the dashboard makes a fraction of the requests it used to, and the entire Journey story now ships inside the app instead of being fetched a scene at a time — so chapters appear instantly.

Updates that take care of themselves

The installed app now picks up new versions quietly in the background, without interrupting you or switching off your notifications. Settings will tell you exactly which version you are running if you ever want to know. Also, there is now a button in Settings you can click at any time to check whether you have the latest version of the app.
